About this property

Welcome to Fort Ross Lodge

Fort Ross Lodge is a family-owned hotel and lodge situated on a hill overlooking the Sonoma Coast, just a short walk from Fort Ross State Historic Park. Its coastal location along the scenic Shoreline Highway offers guests ocean views from cozy rooms, many featuring private patios. The adults-only annex provides an added level of privacy for those seeking a quieter retreat.

The property strikes a rustic and relaxed tone, with guest feedback highlighting comfortable accommodations that often include wood-burning stoves and simple kitchenettes. While some rooms show signs of wear such as buckling floors and weathered wood, many travelers appreciate the atmosphere as more laid-back than a typical city hotel. The on-site store, gas station, and coffee bar add practical convenience, and little touches like daily wood for fireplaces contribute to the ambiance.

Amenities include free Wi-Fi, free parking, a smoke-free environment, a fitness center, and a hot tub, with the added benefit of being pet- and kid-friendly. Although there is no pool or airport shuttle, the lodge meets the needs of visitors seeking a quiet, service-minded base for coastal exploration. The adults-only annex suits couples or those desiring extra tranquility.

Nearby attractions offer diverse outdoor activities in a largely natural setting, with Fort Ross and Fort Ross State Historic Park providing historical insights, and Salt Point State Park offering hiking and scenic coastline views. The lodge’s remote coastal location appeals to guests looking to disconnect, enjoy nature, and explore local heritage sites. Some guests mention the cool coastal weather, which can be foggy and chilly, so preparedness is advised.

I was welcomed by Michael who has been very nice and proactive! He made my stay smooth and very enjoyable, being flexible with my arrival. He is the one you want to talk to! The location is perfect if you want to disconnect and reset. I spent an amazing afternoon in the jacuzzi facing the ocean, in a peaceful environment. The room was clean and cozy and I enjoyed having a real coffee in the morning before I left.

Third stay here. Our favorite destination to leave the heat of summer. Warning- it can get COLD here. This is the coast and fog is unpredictable. We always pay a bit more for the private hot tub. Rooms are staggered to aid privacy. It’s quite a trek out to the cliffs. A wood burning stove with daily portions of wood is supplied lending to the wonderful ambience. Yes, the floors are buckling. Yes the wood is weathered. But it’s wildly neat and kept up around here, not like pristine city hotels but more like “Come paint the landscape” feeling. Our room this time is about 19’ wide furnished with a king sized four-poster bed, table and chairs for two, desk and chair. There is a small kitchen sink with minimal utensils and plates to dine in. Small dorm type fridge. TV with direct TV on it. WiFi provided. Barbecue. No marble or granite here. Love the rustic. Great to get out of the heat and dreading the return to 105 degrees after three cool days in the upper 60’s.

Truly a gorgeous slice of paradise for anyone who loves a romantic getaway on the coast! Specific rooms have better views, in mine you could see the Pacific Ocean from the king sized bed, right next to the roaring fireplace. 10/10 highly recommend Fort Ross Lodge!!!!

My spouse and I had an absolutely lovely time at Fort Ross Lodge! After a long day of hiking we were looking forward to a nice soak in the communal hot tub, but it was unfortunately out of commission during our stay. The staff was kind enough to open up a private one at an empty unit for our use and it was magical with a really special view when the fog would pass. Will definitely return on our next time in CA!

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at the lodge. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you could want including comfy robes. The setting is nothing short of stunning and the managers and staff are friendly and helpful. The area has numerous attractions with hiking, winery, beaches, and the historic Fort. The store is well stocked and the coffee bar and deli are amazing . We will definitely go back !

I stayed at Fort Ross Lodge for three days and two nights with my dog, and we had an amazing time! The service was wonderful, everyone was so friendly and attentive. The lodge is just steps away from the ocean, offering breathtaking views and plenty of nearby activities to enjoy. We even spotted a whale during our stay, which made the trip unforgettable. It was the perfect mix of relaxation, nature, and adventure, we can’t wait to come back!

The views are incredible & the rooms are like a studio apartment & very comfortable with a wood burning fireplace too! Staff member Josh, is extremely friendly and knowledgeable of nearby restaurants and beaches & hiking trails We will definitely be back soon!

One of our favorite stays on our drive up the coast. Cozy, comfortable and scenic. Our room had a wood stove, sliding glass door onto a patio and a kitchenette. Perfect for sleeping in/lounging in bed with a cup of coffee and a good book!
